Overview
The following 5 galleries represent Mona Serageldin’s analog 35mm slide collection on housing projects and land management, as arranged in slide case M45: “Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, China, India.”
Each of the Galleries 1-5 cover a different region of South and Southeast Asia. Photographs and graphics document housing typologies and development projects from the 1980s, and support I2UD’s seminar programs on housing design and case studies on land development processes.

GALLERY M45-2: India (1980-1981)

Photographs and graphics of Mumbai and Agra, India from late 1980 through early 1981, for use in housing lectures. Images include aerial views, informal housing, architectural details, courtyards, street markets, high-rises, commercial and residential buildings, and housing developments. Views also show the Gateway of India arch and waterfront and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus building of the Mumbai Central Railway. Graphics include maps and charts of urban restructuring, land use, and populations.
Photographs of Agra show the Taj Mahal buildings, Great Gate, garden and grounds, and view of river, as well as the Agra Fort and other structures within it, including the Sheesh Mahal (Glass Palace) and Shah Birj.

Views also show residents, landscapes, lumber storage, and housing, markets, and storefronts along the river. Landmarks include Wat Benchamabophit temple, the Wat Pho temple complex, the Wat Arun temple, and the Istana Satu palace.
