The following 3 galleries represent Mona Serageldin’s analog 35mm slide collection on urban upgrading, as arranged in slide case M26: “Lublin, France Small Towns, Latin American Cases.”
This selection of photographs includes views of historic centers, revitalization of old neighborhoods, and informal housing, in areas of rebuilding and change in Europe and Latin America. The images show community facilities, urban streetscapes, and residential structures of a variety of types and conditions—old, new, and under construction.

This gallery documents updates to revitalization projects in Lublin, Poland from August 2004, for the neighborhoods of Bronowice, Kośminek, and Old Town, as well as the city center. Views of the neighborhoods include new and old housing, street conditions, buildings under renovation, building facades and architectural details, and hotel interiors. Landmarks include Waksman Hotel, Lublin Castle, Market Square, medieval ruins, and Grodzka Gate (Castle Gate). Serageldin and team members are pictured.

It shows town centers and old buildings, municipal buildings and parks, industrial zones, and streetscapes and plazas. GALLERY M26-3: Latin America (1987-2001)

This gallery documents historic centers, informal housing, and urban upgrading across Latin America from 1987 through 2001. It includes color photographs and graphics. Landmarks in various locations include Banespa Building (Altino Arantes Building), Christ the Redeemer statue, Royal Portuguese Reading Room (Real Gabinete Português de Leitura), El Panecillo hill, Plaza las Palomas in Macuto, Latin American Tower, among others. Serageldin and community members are pictured throughout.
Cuenca, Ecuador: Presentation slides for Cuenca, Ecuador, including images of architecture and historic centers, and topographical charts of urban areas, settlements, historic areas, land development, and improvement plans.
São Paulo, Brazil: Photographs of the city center and Paraisopolis Community Center of São Paulo. Views include city skyline and high-rises, community facilities and telecenter, and the Paraisopolis favela.
Brazil: Photographs of Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, Santo André municipality, and Fortaleza. Includes overviews of cities, housing facades and details, streetscapes, and community members.
Lima, Peru: Photographs and graphics on the Villa El Salvador district in Lima from 2001, including views of housing facades, streetscapes, municipal facilities, and infrastructure.
Mexico City, Mexico: Photographs cover the historic center of Mexico City, and include facades and aerial views of historic city buildings, streetscapes, churches and plazas, architectural details, and market stalls.
Quito, Ecuador: Photographs and graphics for Quito, Ecuador from 1998-2001, primarily covering its historic center. Photographs show housing across the city viewed from the hill El Panecillo, aerial views from airplane, project and community members, building facades and streetscapes, and architectural details.
Vargas, Venezuela: Photographs and graphics relating to the Vargas tragedy of 1999 in La Guaira (Vargas State), Venezuela, including the neighborhoods and towns of Los Corales, Caraballeda, Tanaguarena, Macuto, and Carmen de Uria. Includes maps of the coast, overviews of damaged housing and infrastructure, landscapes, architectural details, Plaza las Palomas in Macuto, building facades showing floodlines, streetscapes, and the aftermath of destroyed houses and highways. Also included are graphics from the Universidad Metropolitana de Caracas school of design exhibit.
